AirTran Airways (Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) has officially suspended operations following its last flight, FL1, from Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson to Tampa International in the evening of Sunday, December 28. Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) has gradually taken over the majority of AirTran's network, its fleet of B737-700s and most of its staff as part of an integration process that has taken three years since the acquisition of the LCC by Southwest in 2011.

The last flight was operated by B717-200 N717JL (msn 55042). Just like all other of AirTran's originally 88 B717-200s, the aircraft will be sub-leased to Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) in due course. Southwest continues to operate up to six daily services between Atlanta and Tampa using a mix of B737-300s and B737-700s.
