AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines (J2, Baku Heydar Aliev International) took delivery of two B787-8s on order from Boeing (BOE, Washington National) late last month becoming the first ex-Soviet bloc operator of the type. The aircraft, VP-BBR (msn 37920) and VP-BBS (msn 37921), will likely be deployed on longhaul flights to New York JFK as well as to China and Europe.

The order suffered from persistent delays owing to the airline's concerns over the aircraft's problematic operational history.
