Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) has been reprimanded by Indonesia's Directorate General Of Civil Aviation (DGCA) after a series of extensive flight delays affected more than 3,000 passengers over the period February 18 to 20.

In addition to the reprimand, the regulatory body said it would ensure the airline adequately reimbursed the affected passengers as required under the airline's Conditions of Carriage. Other measures taken include a ban on any further applications for new route permits while a special team will be set up to audit Lion Air's crisis management mechanisms. The ban is to remain in place until such time that the airline can convince the DGCA that it can adequately protect customer rights in the event of delays and cancellations.

"The goal is to ensure that similar incidents do not occur again in the future," the DGCA's new Director General, Suprasetyo, said at a press conference in Jakarta last week.
