Greenland Express (Aalborg) is to resume operations on May 11 this year using Billund as its primary base CEO Gert Brask has told Denmark's check-in.dk aviation news portal.

In his interview, Brask said flights from the western Danish town to Kangerlussuaq and Narsarsuaq in Greenland would operate through to the end of October when the summer season ends. While most flights will operate direct, some will operate via Copenhagen Kastrup.

"We have chosen Billund Airport based on an assessment of the size of the catchment area. However, the intention is to expand our route network to Aalborg at a later date," Brask stated.

Though initial reports had pointed to the virtual carrier chartering A319-100s for its operational requirements, Brask has now said a 168-seater A320-200 would be used instead.

"We can confirm that we have selected the aircraft type, the Airbus A320. The name of the airline and registration will not be published until the aircraft arrives in Denmark," he said.

This is the carrier's second attempt at sustained operations after its initial venture into the Denmark-Greenland market lasted just four months last year. Back then, the airline used a Fokker 100 chartered from Denim Air ACMI (Amsterdam Schiphol) for its operational needs.
