Indonesia AirAsia X (IDX, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) has secured its necessary permits from the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) ahead of its launch of flights from Bali to Melbourne Tullamarine on March 17.

"The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has issued an Air Operator’s Certificate to Indonesia AirAsia X. This means Indonesia AirAsia X now has CASA approval for flights between Melbourne and Denpasar," the regulatory body said in a statement.

Despite securing its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from Indonesia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Transport ministry in September last year, the AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) subsidiary has battled to launch operations. Plans to start 5x weekly flights to Australia in December last year were scrubbed at the last moment with Indonesia AirAsia currently only serving Taipei Taoyuan from Denpasar.
