Adria Airways (Ljubljana) will launch scheduled flights from Maribor to London Southend on June 1 this year. Flights will run three times a week with A319-100 and CRJ900 aircraft while sales are announced to start on March 30.

Adria hereby will be the sole carrier to operate flights from the Slovenian airport this summer. Maribor Airport itself just has seen a very limited number of passengers during the recent years. The last scheduled services took place in 2008, when Ryanair left the airport due to poor loads after having served it from London Stansted for a couple of months. Furthermore air traffic to Ljubljana was relocated to Maribor for a brief period in 2010 during runway overhaul in Ljubljana.

According to the managing director of Aerodroma Maribor, Marko Gros, a further two routes are expected to be announced this summer.

Slovenia's second largest city will also see charter flights to Turkey and Greece later this year.
