Afriqiyah Airways (8U, Tripoli Mitiga) has been forced to cancel its recently resumed flights to Tunisia after authorities there sealed off their airspace to Libyan carriers operating out of the west of the country. A Tunisian government functionary told Reuters newswire the closure was as a result of security concerns.

The move comes 4 days after Tunis allowed Libyan carriers departing from Tripoli Mitiga and Misurata to resume flights to Tunisia and 6 days after Islamic State terrorists attacked the National Bardo Museum in Tunis, killing 21 people, 20 of whom were tourists.

Libya is currently divided into two parts with the eastern part partially governed by the country's internationally recognized, albeit deposed, national government while the western part, including Tripoli, is currently under the control of Islamist-aligned Libyan Dawn rebels.
