Air Costa Rica (San José Juan Santamaría) is readying itself for a possible launch during the second half of this year managing director, Carlos Víquez, has said.

Speaking to the CRhoy website, Viquez said he now expects to complete certification with the Costa Rican civil aviation authority (Dirección General de Aviación Civil - DGAC) by the middle of July following which it will open negotiations with potential destinations concerning possible charter flights.

Original plans had called for a December 2014 launch pending the issuance of an Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

Air Costa Rica plans to use a pair of B737-300s leased from parent Air Panama (7P, Panamá City Paitilla) to serve Managua, Miami International, San Andrés Island, and Balboa initially before expanding to Guatemala City, Bogotá, Lima International, and Guayaquil.
