BQB Líneas Aéreas (Punta del Este) is set to resume operations on May 4 following the successful conclusion of take over talks between founder and CEO, Juan Carlos López Mena, and Amaszonas (Z8, La Paz El Alto) management. BQB suspended operations on April 10 threatening the jobs of over ninety employees.

A joint communique issued on Friday last week said the finalization of the deal would lead to the continuity of the airline therein guaranteeing Uruguay's connectivity with other countries in the region.

Under the plan, BQB Líneas Aéreas will be spun off from its Argentine-Uruguayan parent, Buquebus, before being absorbed into the Bolivian carrier's fold.

"With the agreement of the aeronautical authorities of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, the Republic of Argentina and the Republic of Paraguay, it is estimated that on May 4, [BQB] operations will resume on the Montevideo CarrascoBuenos Aires Jorge Newbery and Montevideo-Asuncion return routes using CRJ200s jets sourced from Amaszonas S.A." a statement said.

Initially, Amaszonas intends to retain thirty BQB employees, who currently maintain the airline's three ATR72-500s, with plans to reinstate other laid off workers as operations expand.

The move into Uruguay is part of a concerted effort to expand Amaszonas' regional marketshare. With BQB's Chilean Air Operators Certificate (AOC) in hand, Amaszonas is now in the process of securing a Paraguayan AOC for its new subsidiary, Amaszonas Paraguay (Asuncion).

The start-up recently completed its initial phase of certification and plans to serve Campo Grande International and Foz do Iguaçu International in Brazil, Córdoba International and Posadas in Argentina, and Santa Cruz Viru Viru in Bolivia among others.
