Atlantic Airways (RC, Faroe Islands Vágar) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for one A320-200 due for delivery later next year. The final agreement is expected to be signed in June. The Faroese carrier says the larger aircraft will allow it to keep up with rising demand on its Faroe Islands Vágar-Copenhagen Kastrup route.

Though it currently operates three A319-100s Atlantic Airways plans to extend the contract for one of its two leased A319s which expires in September 2016. The move will allow it to determine the suitability of the type to its Northern routes to Bergen in Norway and Reykjavik Keflavik and Reykjavik Domestic in Iceland.

"Until the fall of 2016, Atlantic Airways has opted to serve the North routes with Airbus A319s," the carrier said. "In this trial period the company will determine whether it is feasible to acquire a smaller plane to serve these routes. The company is still researching what type of aircraft is ideal for the North routes."

As such, Atlantic Airways' medium-term fleeting plans should see it operate an Airbus A320, an Airbus A319, and an aircraft that is ideally suited to its North routes.
