The Omani government, through the Public Authority For Civil Aviation, has issued a Request For Information (RFI) from parties interested in forming a Low Cost Carrier that will be based in the Sultanate and which will operate both domestically and internationally.

Last year, Oman's Minister of Transport and Communications, Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, said the venture would operate as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) wherein suitable partners/investors identified during the RFI would then be whittled down to one candidate during the Request for Applications (RFA) process.

On his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air (WY, Muscat) in August 2014 last year, Paul Gregorowitsch scrubbed predecessor Wayne Pearce's plans to develop an in-house budget subsidiary on the grounds that any such operation would inevitably cannibalize Oman Air's existing market share.
