Uzbekistan Airways (HY, Tashkent International) has announced that it will suspend its Tashkent International-Kyiv Boryspil, Ukraine service with effect from May 12. In a statement, the Uzbek national carrier said neither country's civil aviation authority had been able to reach an agreement concerning the allocation of traffic rights.

A similar suspension occurred last year when Uzbekistan Airways froze its Kiev flight from April 1 to July 15. Though neither side could initially agree to the allocation of weekly flight frequencies, they did eventually settle on a 2x weekly service for both Uzbekistan Airways and Ukraine International Airlines (PS, Kyiv Boryspil).

For its part, this is the Ukraine's second such dispute with a fellow former Soviet republic this year. Recently, Kiev was able to successfully resolved an impasse with the Belarus government concerning the allocation of flight frequencies on the Minsk National-Kiev route.
