Chicago-based Volare Air Group says it is looking to resurrect the Northeast Airlines (United States of America) (Boston) brand as part of plans to launch its own scheduled airline. Following Northeast's merger into Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) in 1972, Volare acquired the rights to the Northeast Airlines name, logo and trademark. As such, the firm says its carrier will more or less mimic its predecessor serving destinations throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, central and south Florida, and the Caribbean.

With Northeast 2.0 serving the US domestic and regional Caribbean market, Volare is also considering launching a new subsidiary, Grace Airways, which it is planning to launch by the end of this year. Based out of Birmingham, AL, the full service carrier will serve select Caribbean, European, and Asian markets. For its MRO requirements, Volare says it is looking to use the former Pemco maintenance facility at Birmingham.
