Eastern Air Lines (2009) (Miami International) president and CEO Ed Wegel says his airline, which recently commenced commercial charter operations using a single B737-800, will deploy its second of the type into service with a “major scheduled airline” later next month.

Speaking to the Miami Herald paper, Wegel said the aircraft would arrive this month before being used on flights from into the Caribbean from New York and Miami International with effect from July 1.

Having secured its Part 121 Air Carrier Operating Certificate from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) last month, Eastern has already commenced operations by chartering out capacity to virtual carrier Havana Air (Miami International) for its flights between the US and Cuba.
