Norwegian (Oslo Gardermoen) founder and Chief Executive Officer Bjørn Kjos says his airline is planning to commence intercontinental operations out of Aalborg in Spring 2017 using its incoming fleet of B737 MAX 8s.

"We will have the new aircraft in 2017," he told Norway's Nordjyske Stiftstidende newspaper. "Such a route between Aalborg and New York JFK would likely start in the spring, so it may probably be starting in the spring of 2017."

Kjos added that depending on how the market develops, service to the US East Coast will likely operate 2x weekly with the aircraft to be used on flights to cities in Europe such as Aberdeen Dyce, Edinburgh, and Stavanger in northern Norway for the rest of the week.

Talks with Aalborg airport are currently ongoing, Kjos ended.

Kjos has said he would use his airline's incoming fleet of 100 B737 MAX 8s to open up flights from secondary European cities to not only the United States, but also the Caribbean, and possibly China.
