WOW air (Reykjavik Keflavik) is in talks with authorities at Long Island MacArthur Airport, also known as Islip, Airport Commissioner Robert Schaefer has said.

In an interview with Newsday last week, Schaefer said his team is trying to lure the Icelandic budget carrier to the airfield, located about 70km from Manhattan. WOW Air began transatlantic flights in March linking its Reykjavik Keflavik hub with Baltimore International and Boston.

For its part, Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) and Piedmont Airlines (PT, Salisbury, MD) (operating on behalf of US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor)) connect Islip with a total of sixty-six scheduled destinations of which only one lies outside the continental United States - San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin in Puerto Rico.
