Thai Lion Air (SL, Bangkok Don Mueang) is planning to commence international operations this August with flights from its Bangkok Don Mueang hub to Singapore Changi. The budget carrier's ground handling manager, Nas Wongteerathaweeporn, told the Bangkok Times that flights to two Chinese cities, one of which is Taiyuan will follow later in the year, along with the launch of flights out of Chiang Rai, also to China.

In the longterm, the Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) subsidiary is also planning to serve Japan albeit towards the end of next year Wongteerathaweeporn added.

Using a fleet of thirteen B737-900(ER)s, Thai Lion Air operates an exclusively domestic network offering flights between Bangkok Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, Krabi, Phuket, Surat Thani, and Udon Thani.
