Air Europa (UX, Palma de Mallorca) is in talks to lease an A330 for use on its North American passenger flights as well as troop movement flights for the Spanish Armed Forces. Quoting informed sources who wished to remain anonymous, Spain's Preferente newspaper says the aircraft is a 'recent manufacture' and was originally destined for a 'now bankrupt Asian carrier.'

Based on this description, it is presumed the aircraft in question is an A330-300 that was destined for Skymark Airlines (BC, Tokyo Haneda). Following its declaration of bankruptcy in January this year, the Japanese LCC abandoned plans to lease seven A330-300s from US lessor Intrepid Aviation and three from CIT Aerospace. Intrepid has however already confirmed to ch-aviation that its aircraft will not be leased to Air Europa.

Air Europa executives are said to be in ongoing talks concerning the A330's lease which may lead to additional aircraft should demand dictate it.

The Spanish leisure specialist operates twelve A330-200s and two A330-300s on flights throughout Western Europe, the Caribbean, as well as North and South America.
