Huatugou Airport, situated in the Gobi Desert in China's northwestern Qinghai Province, opened to commercial traffic on Friday, June 26. Local media reports state China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao) inaugurated the facility with A319-100-operated flights to Xining.

Built at an altitude of 2,906m, the airfield will help improve connectivity to the remote outpost whose nearest major urban settlement is roughly 500km away.
