FlySafair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) will add three B737 NextGen aircraft to its fleet of five B737-400s during the last quarter of the year airline CEO Elmar Conradie told a media briefing at Johannesburg O.R. Tambo this week.

According to South African Engineering News, the three B737-800s, previously leased by South African Airways (SA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) and its LCC subsidiary Mango Airlines (MNO, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo), are due to arrive in October and November.

"The introduction of the -800s basically means an increase in [our] capacity. Our next focus is on the trade and corporates [passenger markets]," he said. "Our focus until now was on [the] leisure [market]. The reason for that was the lack of a [more comprehensive] route network. Now we have that route network, so we can go for [the] corporates [market]."

In all, Conradie said the Safair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) subsidiary plans to phase out three of its -400s over the next year or so with the long term strategy of operating an homogenous fleet.

Currently, FlySafair serves Johannesburg O.R. Tambo, Cape Town International, George, and Port Elizabeth with plans to serve Durban King Shaka and East London from October 25 onwards.
