Grupo Viva, the Panamanian multinational airline holding company owned by Irelandia Aviation and Grupo IAMSA, has announced the formation of a new Costa Rica-based LCC, VivaCam (San José Juan Santamaría).

A contraction of "Viva Centroamerica", VivaCam will compliment the company's two other budget operations - VivaColombia (Medellín José Maria Córdova) and VivaAerobus (VB, Monterrey Mariano Escobedo) - with plans to launch revenue operations early next year. It is currently pursuing its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) with the Costa Rican civil aviation authority (Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil - DGAC).

Using an initial fleet of two A320-200s, the LCC will offer low-cost flights from its San José Juan Santamaría hub to the rest of Central America during its First Year. The start-up's president, Joseph Mohan, says that by Year Three, it envisages a fleet of six A320s plying routes to North and South America as well as the Caribbean.
