Hong Kong Airlines (HX, Hong Kong International) has set a January 6, 2016 date for its resumption of longhaul operations with flights to Australia. Li Dianchun, Commercial Director of Hong Kong Airlines, said that subject to regulatory approval, his airline would operate a 3x weekly Hong Kong International-Gold Coast Coolangatta-Cairns-Hong Kong service on-board A330-300 equipment.

"Leveraging our connectivity in Asia via the international hub Hong Kong, we believe the new service will be well received by the passengers especially those from Beijing Capital, Shanghai Pudong, Tianjin, Chengdu Shuangliu, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Okinawa Naha, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Taipei Taoyuan, bringing them more travel options," he said.

The HNA Group subsidiary operated all-premium Hong Kong International-London Gatwick flights up until September 2012 when poor returns forced it to reconsider its business plan and focus on the regional Asian market instead.
