Vietnam Airlines (VN, Hanoi Noi Bai International) took delivery of its first B787-9 - VN-A861 (msn 35151) - on Saturday, August 1 following a ferry flight routed Everett-Hanoi Noi Bai International. The aircraft will be used on flights to Ho Chi Minh City initially followed by Frankfurt International and London Heathrow later on.

The Vietnamese national carrier has eight B787-9s on order from Boeing (BOE, Washington National) with a further five due to be delivered by the end of this year with the remainder due by 2018.

Eight larger B787-10s, on longterm lease from Air Lease Corporation (ALC), are scheduled to arrive between 2019 and 2021.

The aircraft are collectively part of Vietnam Airlines's fleet renewal plans which will see its existing widebody fleet of ten A330-200s and eight B777-200(ER)s replaced with A350s and B787s.
