Meridiana (Olbia) has once more announced plans to commence charter flights to Pemba, MZ, a town situated along the Indian Ocean coastline of northern Mozambique. Currently the airfield sees only narrowbody traffic in the form of flights to Beira, Nampula, and Maputo domestically and Dzaoudzi, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo, and Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta regionally.

According to the ItaliaVola flight blog, the service is scheduled to operate from Milan Malpensa on-board B767-200(ER) equipment effective December 21.

Sister carrier Air Italy (2005) (Milan Malpensa) announced a similar plan in 2012 only to call it off at the last moment following opposition party Renamo's threat to return Mozambique to civil war.
