Ukraine International Airlines (PS, Kyiv Boryspil) is planning to establish a separate MRO unit at its Kyiv Boryspil hub airline Vice President - Commerce, Sergey Fomenko, has said.

Speaking to Russia's ATO, Fomenko said UIA has long had an interest in developing its own maintenance facilities at Borispol given that the airport has none at present time. Having secured the lease on a 7,500sqm hangar at the airport in July, UIA now intends to transfer some technical staff from its mainline operation to the planned MRO unit.

"The organization will be contractually linked to UIA," Fomenko said. "Its personnel will provide repair services to UIA aircraft and they will also ensure the airworthiness of our fleet."

He did not disclose any exact time lines for the switch.

Borispol's largest operator, UIA's fleet entails four B737-300s, six B737-500s, eight B737-800s, four B737-900s, five B767-300(ER)s, and five E190s.
