fastjet plc is on track to purchase its first aircraft - an A319-100 - which will be placed with its nascent Fastjet Zambia (Lusaka) subsidiary. In a statement, the LCC said it had signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the purchase of the jet which is expected to be ready for operations by the end of September this year.

The Zambian operation is one of two Southern African start-ups the London-listed LCC is pursuing this year. the other, Fastjet Zimbabwe (FN, Harare International) is also expected to commence operations before year-end with its maiden aircraft - an A319 leased from an undisclosed source - set to arrive in-country in the near future.

The firm's Fastjet (Dar es Salaam) operation currently operates a fleet of three leased A319s on flights throughout Tanzania, as well as to South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.
