Skygreece Airlines (Athens) has temporarily suspended operations following a series of transatlantic flight cancellations that began last week and which have lasted until now.

The carrier said in a statement that the Greek economic crisis has impacted its operations resulting in an immediate and dramatic reduction in ticket sales.

"Unfortunately, as a result of recent technical issues, the Company is now facing a system-wide multi-day delay and significant additional expenses," it said. "As a result, SkyGreece management regrets to announce that it must temporarily cease all operations. The Company expects to resume operations soon."

Owned by Greek-Canadian interests, Skygreece launched in May this year with flights between the Balkans and Canada using a single B767-300(ER). The aircraft is currently parked at Toronto Pearson following its last arrival there on August 25.
