Direct flights between western Libya and Tunisia have once more resumed following a year-long suspension. Research shows Ghadames Air Transport (Tripoli Mitiga) and Libyan Airlines (LN, Tripoli Mitiga) began flights between Tripoli Mitiga and Tunis this week.

Tunisia allowed the resumption of flights, which covers the whole of Libya (flights in the past were restricted to eastern Libya), following an extensive investigation of the country's security and safety mechanisms.

While flights did resume in March of this year, they were suspended again after only six days after Islamic State terrorists attacked the National Bardo Museum in Tunis, killing 21 people, 20 of whom were tourists. Those responsible were accused of having links to Libya.

Libya is currently divided into two parts with the eastern part partially governed by the country's internationally recognized, albeit deposed, national government. The western part, including Tripoli, is currently under the control of Islamist-aligned Libyan Dawn rebels.
