Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) and JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda) are to inject a further JPY5 billion (USD41.07 million) each into their Jetstar Japan (GK, Tokyo Narita) joint venture, two months after they contributed JPY4 billion (USD32.86 million).

The Sydney Morning Herald indicates the carriers' first tranche of JPY3.5 billion (USD28.75 million) each will be paid in the near future with the remaining JPY1.5 billion (USD12.32 million) to be disbursed at a later date.

Each carrier currently holds a 47.1% stake in the LCC with the remaining 2.9% split between Mitsubishi Corporation and Century Tokyo Leasing Corporation.

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce this month said he expected the loss-making airline to turn profitable during the 2016-17 financial year. He did not disclose whether additional capital injections would be needed in order to achieve so.

Founded in 2011, Jetstar Japan operates twenty A320-200s on flights throughout Japan as well as to its sole international destination, Hong Kong International.
