Elite Airways (MNU, Portland International Jetport) has announced it will offer scheduled passenger services to Vero Beach Municipal from December 10 through to the end of April 2016.

Operated on-behalf of virtual carrier Branson Air Express (Branson), the 2x weekly flights to New York Newark will be the Floridian coastal town's first such operations since American Eagle Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) (now Envoy Air (MQ, Dallas/Fort Worth)) withdrew in 1996.

According to the TC Palm publication, Elite had planned to start flights as early as last month but was thwarted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) which demanded the airfield comply with post-9/11 security requirements before any commercial flights could operate.

The airfield is also home to civilian aircraft manufacturer, Piper Aircraft (Vero Beach Municipal).
