The Luxembourg government has temporarily acquired Lufthansa's 13% stake in national carrier Luxair (LG, Luxembourg) the country's Ministry of Public Works has announced. As such, government says the measure is only temporary and that the shareholding will be placed on the market once all regulatory requirements have been complied with.

The Germans announced their intention to exit Luxair's shareholding in July this claiming the stake did not give them any real influence in the airline's operations.

Since then, relations between the two airlines has been fraught with Luxair accusing Lufthansa of violating trade agreements in force between them given Lufthansa launched its own Frankfurt International-Luxembourg service forcing Luxair to stop its own services on the route previously operated in cooperation with Lufthansa.
