SunExpress (XQ, Antalya) has firmed up options for ten B737 MAX 8 aircraft. In a statement, the carrier said the optional aircraft were part of a 2014 order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) which included firm commitments for twenty-five B737-800s and twenty-five B737 MAX 8s.

“We are pleased to confirm these 10 optional Boeing 737 MAX 8s as a firm order that will support our growth strategy, one that the airline has been successfully implementing for four years,” said SunExpress Managing Director Jaan Albrecht. “Last year we took delivery of five brand new next generation 737-800s and this year we will receive seven new aircraft with the new SunExpress interior design. These aircraft will offer many advantages, such as lower fuel consumption, lower maintenance cost and expenses, longer range, lower emissions and less noise,” he added.

A joint-venture between Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Airport) and Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International), Sun Express operates fifty-two B737-800s on flights from Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, and the United Kingdom to leisure destinations in Turkey as well as domestically in Turkey under its own brand and on a wet-lease basis for Turkish Airlines LCC unit AnadoluJet (Ankara Esenboga).
