Salvador International International Airport, on Brazil's eastern seaboard, has closed its 3,000m-long main runway 10/28 to all traffic with effect from February 22 to March 24 on account of ongoing upgrade and resurfacing works. A further closure between 22h00L to 05h00L from March 28 to 30 is also planned.

For the duration of the current closure, the airfield's shorter 1,520m-long runway 17/35 will be able to accommodate commercial aircraft up to the size of B737-300. To help with approaches and landings, an Abbreviated Precision Approach Path Indicator (APAPI) will be installed.

TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas) has announced that some flights to the city may be affected either through cancellations or through delays.

Other carriers serving the airfield include: Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR, Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery), Air Europa (UX, Palma de Mallorca), American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth), Avianca Brasil (São Paulo Congonhas), Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos), Condor (DE, Frankfurt International), GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas), LAN Airlines (Santiago de Chile), Passaredo Linhas Aéreas (Ribeirão Preto Leite Lopes), and TAP Portugal (Lisbon).
