Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) has raised the airline foreign ownership limits for Brazilian carriers from the current 20% to 49% on Wednesday, March 2. With a presidential decree by president Dilma Rousseff the change has been implemented to help struggling Brazilian carriers find new investments.

All Brazilian carriers are struggling because of a massive devaluation of the Brazilian real and lower demand because of the country's economic situation.

GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas) counts Air France-KLM and Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) as its minority shareholders, while Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) has received an investment from Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) parent HNA Group recently. The country's secound largest carrier TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas) is owned by LATAM Airlines Group formed during the 2012 merger with LAN Airlines (Santiago de Chile).
