Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has announced it will shift its Hamburg Luebeck operations to Hamburg Helmut Schmidt later next month owing to recurring financial problems at the former.

The Hungarian LCC said the shift would come into effect from April 17 with flights to Gdansk, Kyiv Igor Sikorsky, and Skopje affected. The move will consequently leave the north German airport with no scheduled services.

For its part, Lübeck Airport has dabbled with insolvency for the past three years owing to a slew of would-be investors who, for a variety of reasons, have failed to deliver on their financial promises. The most recent filing for insolvency was in September last year with administrators currently in talks with two prospective buyers willing to invest in the facility.
