Brussels National Airport will remain closed until further notice pending the completion of investigations into Tuesday's terrorist attacks which killed at least 30 people and wounded about 230 others.
In a statement, airport management said the terminal had been cordoned off for the duration of forensic investigations.
"Until we can assess the damage, it remains unclear when we can resume operations," it said.
In the meantime, operators using the airfield have put in place contingency measures. Brussels Airlines (SN, Brussels National) has announced it will operate limited regional European flights from Liège and Antwerp airports. According to Luchtzak, Brussels Airlines' long-haul operations will temporarily be moved to Zurich where connections with Star Alliance partner Swiss (LX, Zurich) can be offered. Several of the carrier's A330 aircraft have already been ferried to African airports to resume operations.
Fellow Belgian carrier Jetairfly (Brussels National) has announced it will be using Brussels Charleroi and Ostend for its operational needs during the upcoming Easter holidays. Likewise Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) has also begun shifting some National/Zaventem flights across to Brussels Charleroi. Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium (Brussels National) has published a statement that it will operate all Brussels flights from/to Liège until Monday, March 28.
