Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has announced it will open its seventh base in Romania in Sibiu later this summer. Effective August 19, the Hungarian LCC will base one A320-200 out of the Transylvanian town with plans to open up new routes to Nuremberg, Memmingen, Milan Bergamo and Madrid Barajas. Existing services to London Luton will also be increased from the currently 5x weekly, to daily.

"The new base in Sibiu represents an investment by Wizz Air of EUR100 million (USD113 million) and the company will hire thirty-six people to be based in Sibiu as crewmembers for the new aircraft, bringing the company’s total employment in Romania to 600 colleagues," it aid. "The new base will also contribute to the local economy, supporting indirect jobs in airport operations, transportation, hospitality, and tourism industries."

Wizz Air's other Romanian bases include: Bucharest Henri Coanda, Craiova, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi (from July 1), Tirgu Mures, and Timisoara.
