airBaltic (BT, Riga) says it has firmed up options for seven additional A220-300s thus bringing the total number of the type on order from Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) to twenty. As the CS300's launch operator, the Latvian carrier is due to take delivery of its maiden aircraft during the second half of the year.

“Our fleet modernization continues as we proudly increase our all-new CS300 aircraft to a fleet of twenty technologically-advanced jetliners in order to support our ‘Horizon 2021’ business plan. This will substantially improve the connectivity of the Baltic region with Western Europe and the Eastern markets – all of which will help stimulate the economies of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, and create new jobs,” Martin Gauss, airBaltic Chief Executive Officer, said.

airBaltic will use the incoming C Series twinjets to replace its ageing Boeing (BOE, Washington National) fleet which currently consists of eight B737-300s and five B737-500s.

In addition to the B737 Classics, the carrier also operates twelve Dash 8-400s on scheduled passenger flights across Europe, Scandinavia, the CIS and the Middle East.
