AirBridgeCargo (RU, Ulyanovsk Vostochny) parent, the Volga-Dnepr Group, has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport which will lead to the development of a cargo hub at the airfield.

The partnership will see the Volga-Dnepr Group establish a dedicated MRO hangar facility while at the same time it will upgrade the airport's existing cargo-handling infrastructure to accommodate special freight consignments.

“This agreement is essential for the airport strategic planning and modernization," Sheremetyevo International Airport CEO Mikhail Vasilenko stated. "We are laying the groundwork for the future and our key goal is to consider our key partners’ strategic goals in the fields of passenger and cargo transportation. This document works as a security to fulfill the effective use of the airport’s infrastructure and in the mid-term, it creates strong premises for air cargo transportation business development."

The airport is also building a new 40,000sqm cargo complex capable of handling 380,000 tonnes per annum up to 1million tonnes when fully completed. The facility is scheduled to open by June 2017.

AirBridge Cargo already offers extensive connectivity to twenty-two destinations across Western Europe, the United States, China, South East Asia, and the Middle East from Sheremetyevo.
