National Airlines (N8, Orlando Sanford) has deferred plans to launch scheduled services from Islip to Puerto Rico this June following delays in the addition of extra fleet capacity.

Airline President and Chief Operating Officer, Edward Davidson, told local media in a statement that National protracted delays in securing additional B757-200s had warranted the deferral.

"This was not our choice, but rather due to the protracted negotiations for new aircraft making a June 1 start impossible,” he told News Day. “We continue to experience strong demand in our scheduled passenger service markets, but are taking a very measured approach to growing this part of our business. While we evaluate options to expand our aircraft fleet and identify potential markets for future expansion, we remain committed to serving our customers.”

National operates two B757-200s of its own on charter flights as well as scheduled services connecting Orlando Sanford, Windsor, San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin, and St. John's. It had originally planned to wet-lease a B737-800 from Miami Air International (Miami International) for the Islip services.
