Iberia (IB, Madrid Barajas) is planning to join British Airways (BA, London Heathrow), Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa), and JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda) in their joint business venture for flights between Europe and Japan.

JAL said in a statement that it has already submitted an application to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) seeking antitrust immunity for its planned trans-Siberian flights with Iberia. The Spanish carrier has already announced it will start direct Madrid Barajas-Tokyo Narita flights in October this year.

The four Oneworld airlines intend to cooperate commercially by sharing revenue and by coordinating flight schedules and fares in order to offer greater benefits to customers travelling between Europe and Japan.

British Airways and JAL entered into a joint business arrangement in October 2012, with Finnair joining the partnership in April 2014.
