VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has placed a firm order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for 100 B737 MAX 200 jets. The aircraft will be delivered between 2019 and 2023 and will support the Vietnamese LCC's domestic and international growth plans.

Vietnamese president, Tran Dai Quang, and his US counterpart, Barack Obama, witnessed Vietjet President and CEO, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, and Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO, Ray Conner, signing the formal agreement in Hanoi.

First ordered by Ryanair (FR, Dublin International), the B737 MAX 200 is a variant of the B737 MAX 8 and can accommodate up to 200 seats.

For its part, VietJetAir is currently an all-Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) operation employing thirty-one A320-200s and four A321-200s. A review of the European manufacturer's order book shows the carrier still has forty-two A320neos, twenty A321-200 (sl)s, and twenty-one A321neo outstanding.
