Fort McMurray will tentatively reopen to commercial traffic on June 10, 2016 following a near month-long closure brought about by recent severe forest fires in the area.

The Airport Authority said in a statement that while it is working closely with the Regional Emergency Operations Centre (REOC), the resumption of commercial flights is dependent on several factors, including the airspace requirements of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry to continue to battle the wildfire.

Operators that served the northwestern Alberta airfield include: Air Canada (AC, Montréal Trudeau) (in conjunction with Jazz Air (QK, Halifax)); Northwestern Air (J3, Fort Smith, NT); and WestJet (WS, Calgary).
