Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur International) outgoing Chief Executive Officer, Christoph Mueller, says the carrier is currently weighing up offerings from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and Boeing (BOE, Washington National) ahead of a possible new narrowbody order.

In an interview with Bloomberg, the German said the A321 and the B737 MAX 9 were currently being looked at for use in opening up new long, thin routes to secondary cities in China. Such routes would have been ideally suited to the now discontinued B757, he added.

An order may be announced in the coming months.

Malaysia Airlines' narrowbody fleet is currently based on the B737-800 of which it operates fifty-six.
