PenAir (Anchorage Ted Stevens) has been awarded Essential Air Service (EAS) contracts for the towns of Liberal and Dodge City in Kansas by the US Department of Transportation (DOT).

The Alaskan carrier will operate twelve weekly return flights using Saab 340B turboprops to either city from Denver International for an annual subsidy of USD1,593,702 each. The contracts, which begin August 1, 2016, and run through to July 31, 2018, were contingent on PenAir securing similar EAS contracts for the Nebraskan towns of Kearney, North Platte, and Scottsbluff which it did.

Incumbent operator Great Lakes Airlines (Cheyenne) will end its respective services on July 31, 2016.
