KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL, Amsterdam Schiphol) says it has acceded to a joint venture agreement currently in place between sister carrier Air France (AF, Paris CDG) and China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao).

As part of the enhanced cooperation between the carriers, both KLM and China Eastern will codeshare on each other's Amsterdam Schiphol-Shanghai Pudong services in addition to three new destinations.

"With this new joint venture, Air France-KLM and the Chinese airline have agreed to consolidate their alliance and optimize routes to Shanghai," a joint communique said. "By extending the joint venture to KLM, the Group is also enhancing the attractiveness of its two connecting hubs at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol."

China Eastern already codeshares on flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to: Barcelona El Prat; Copenhagen Kastrup; London Heathrow; Madrid Barajas; Manchester International, Munich; Paris CDG; and Rome Fiumicino.
