The central Californian town of Modesto has opened talks with Great Lakes Airlines (Cheyenne) over a possible resumption of scheduled commercial services.

The Modesto Bee newspaper reports the negotiations are still in their early stages and, should they be successful, they could lead to a possible launch of flights to Los Angeles International sometime in 2017.

The airport last saw scheduled commercial service back in June 2014 when SkyWest Airlines (OO, Salt Lake City) plied daily flights to San Francisco. It subsequently abandoned the route citing poor market performance. Aside from the threat of heavy fog and other bad weather conditions, the airfield's proximity to Stockton Metropolitan could also impact any potential service's longterm sustainability.
