easyJet (London Luton) has declined to comment on rumours a take-over offer has been made for the low-cost carrier.

Financial news outlets such as the Financial Times last week reported lessor AerCap and easyJet founder Stelios Hajji-Ioannou had teamed up to submit an offer of GBP6.4 billion (USD8.4 billion) for the UK-based airline.

If indeed true, it would be the first time AerCap has ventured directly into the airline market leading to doubt among financial analysts as to the veracity of the reports. For its part, Hajji-Ioannou's family is easyjet's largest shareholder with a 33.7% stake.
