Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) will place an unspecified number of A321neo twinjets with its Batik Air (ID, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) subsidiary CAPA has reported. The aircraft will be used to aid the carrier's Australian market debut given that its range will allow the carrier to reach destinations such as Sydney Kingsford Smith and Melbourne Tullamarine from Denpasar.

Regulatory approvals are currently being sought from Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

At present, the Lion Air Group has sixty-five A321neo on order from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac). Batik Air, for its part, operates twenty-two A320-200s, eleven B737-800s, and six B737-900(ER)s on flights to thirty-one destinations across Indonesia. Its only current foreign destination is Singapore Changi.
