Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has rescinded a ban on charter flights to Turkey effective immediately.

A press release carried by the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) says various carriers have already begun filing flight plans with the first services scheduled for September 2 onwards.

Russia terminated all charter air services with Turkey in October last year following the downing of a Russian Air Force Su-24 jet fighter by a Turkish F-16 near the Syrian conflict zone.

However, after Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan formally apologized to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in June this year, commercial ties between the two nations have gradually resumed.

However, a previous July resumption of chartered flights was delayed following the failed military coup in Turkey of July 15. Since then, Moscow has sought additional security guarantees from Ankara before giving the greenlight to Russian carriers to resume scheduled and chartered flights to Turkey.
